Why We Use Bamboo and Organic Cotton

The people who follow us, support us, and trust us with something as precious as their baby's first days — they have always been at the centre of every decision we make. That includes the decisions most customers never see. The ones made long before a product reaches their door.
When we were developing our wraps and muslins, the question was never simply "what is the best material." It was "what would our community want for their baby." The answer had to be a fabric that was exceptionally soft, safe, and sustainable. One we could stand behind completely. After a great deal of research, and a firm refusal to compromise on any of those things, we chose a blend of bamboo and organic cotton. Here is why.
What This Fabric Does for Your Baby
Softness that is inherent, not treated
Bamboo fibres have a naturally smooth, round structure with no rough edges against the skin. The softness is built into the fibre itself, not achieved through chemical finishing. For a newborn whose skin is at its most sensitive, that distinction matters. Our wraps and muslins are soft from the very first use and stay that way through repeated washing and daily wear.
Breathable and thermoregulating
Bamboo is naturally breathable and helps regulate temperature, keeping babies cool in warmer months and retaining gentle warmth when temperatures drop. For a wrap worn close to the body for extended periods, or a muslin used across all seasons, this is a quality that a standard cotton blend simply would not offer to the same degree.
Hypoallergenic and kind to sensitive skin
Bamboo is naturally hypoallergenic, making it less likely to cause irritation or allergic reactions. Organic cotton, grown without synthetic pesticides or harsh chemicals, reinforces this. Together the blend is particularly well suited to babies with eczema-prone or sensitive skin.
Highly absorbent and built to last
Bamboo absorbs moisture significantly faster than standard cotton, drawing it away from the skin rather than sitting against it. And despite how it feels, bamboo is a strong fibre. Our products hold their shape, softness and structure through the heavy daily use that the first year of parenthood demands.
The Sustainability Case for This Blend
Choosing bamboo and organic cotton was not the easy route. It was the right one.
Bamboo is one of the most sustainable crops on earth — fast growing, naturally pest resistant, requiring very little water, and regenerating without replanting after harvesting. Organic cotton ensures that nothing harmful touches the process from seed to fibre. Conventional cotton farming is one of the most chemically intensive agricultural processes in the world. Organic cotton removes that entirely, protecting the soil, the environment, and the people working with it. For us, this combination felt like the most responsible foundation we could build on.
Words are easy though. So it was equally important to us that the factory we work with shares the same values we do and operates to the standards we believe in. That is why we work with a single factory that holds both the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) and OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certifications.
GOTS is widely regarded as the gold standard in organic textile production. It covers the entire supply chain from raw fibre to finished product, ensuring strict environmental and social standards are met at every stage. OEKO-TEX Standard 100 independently tests every component of the finished product for harmful substances, holding the factory to some of the most rigorous testing standards in the textile industry.
Together these certifications are not just credentials. They are the standard we hold ourselves to, and the standard you deserve.
The Result
Our community feels the difference. It shows in the reviews, in the messages we receive, and in the customers who come back and buy for friends and family expecting their first baby.
It also shows in independent recognition. In 2025 Sustainabub won five industry awards, including Best Carrier and Best Muslin at the Organic and Sustainability Awards — separate categories, judged independently. Winning both in the same year was the clearest possible confirmation that the blend we set out to create delivers on quality and sustainability in equal measure.
That has always been the point.
